STATEMENT ABOUT THE STABILITY DEMOCRATIC IN ECUADOR
Fecha: 13 marzo, 2023

The former Heads of State and Government, members of the Democratic Initiative of Spain and Americas (IDEA), express their concern and alert public opinion about the purpose of opposition parties, social organizations and the National Assembly of the Ecuador, to remove President Guillermo Lasso elected by the people to govern for a period of four years, in accordance with an express mandate of the Constitution. So as we have advocated for the principle of alternation in the exercise of power, because it is consubstantial to democracy and the Rule of Law, we believe also that for the health of democracy there must be respect for the fulfilled of the periods for which the presidents were elected. For the well-being of citizens, the progress of a country and its respectability international, it is not convenient the politic instability that usually cause the replacement untimely and unjustified of the president of the Republic. In view of these considerations, moved by the democratic faith that brings us together, we allow ourselves to make a fervent call to the National Assembly, the Constitutional Court, political parties, civil society and to the Ecuadorian People, to respect the constitutional period for which was chosen as  president William Lasso. Further more, if his alleged prosecution doesn’t arrive to sustain and incontrovertible facts and in solid bases legal and constitutional.
